Sudoku: Glossary

Box
There are 9 3x3 boxes in each sudoku grid. Sometimes called a region.

Cell
One number is marked in each cell.

Givens
The numbers that are pre-marked on the sudoku puzzle to start the game.

Grid
The square of 9 cells across by 9 cells wide is called a grid. Sudoku is played on a grid.

Monster Sudoku
Challenging version of sudoku that uses a 12x12 grid and the numbers 1 to 9 and the letters A, B and C.

Number Place
Another name for the game of sudoku.

Region
See Box.

Sudoku
Name for a number puzzle trademarked by a Japanese company. Means "single number" in Japanese.
