Dominoes Rules: Concentration

Number of players: 2 or more

Type of dominoes required: Standard double-six set with 28 pieces is commonly used, though you can adapt the rules to play with any domino set.

Introduction

Concentration is a simple memory game that you can play using dominoes. A similar game can be played using playing cards.

Starting the game

Determine who will go first. One way to do this is to mix up all dominoes face-down on the table, then each player draws one domino. Highest number goes first.

Place the dominoes face-down on the table and mix them up. Then arrange all the dominoes face-down in a square or rectangular grid, or any pattern you desire.

Playing the game

The player who goes first turns over any two dominoes. If the two dominoes add up to 12 (for example, 3:2 and 6:1 add up to 12), the player takes the dominoes, then goes again. If the dominoes do not add up to 12. The player returns the dominoes face-down. Then the next player to the left goes.

To be successful, players need to remember the location of the revealed dominoes.

Note: If you are using a double-nine set of dominoes, the two dominoes must add up to 18. For a double-twelve set, 24.

Winning and scoring

Play continues until all dominoes have been removed. The player who has removed the most dominoes is the winner. One way to score the game is to award one point for each pair taken, then continue to play multiple rounds until someone reaches a certain score (for example, 50 points).

Another way to play is to simply award the game to the player who removes the final two dominoes. In this version, you could play until a player wins a certain number of games (for example, 10).
